Here are some good tips!

  • The boat must be in seaworthy condition, meaning everything necessary on board must be in order.
  • Ensure the boat is clean and tidy.
  • The engine and engine room must be clean; consider changing the oil, filter, and belts on the engine so you can state when this was last done.
  • Test everything on board so you know it all works; replace any burnt-out light bulbs.
  • You must ensure that the buyer has nothing to complain about when they come to inspect the boat.
  • Remove all unnecessary items ashore.
  • Associated fishing gear, such as lines and anchors, should preferably not be on board for a viewing.
  • Consider whether the fishing gear should be sold separately.
  • Consider pressure washing and cleaning the boat's exterior, and possibly painting the bottom.
  • A tidy and clean boat is the best presentation and the quickest way to sell.
  • By doing this, you demonstrate that you have maintained the boat and prepared it for viewing.
